What is the Functional Voice Training (FVT)?

FVT - The Functional Voice Training - trains students to sing with greater physical ease and a better understanding of their voice, body and vocal literature.

The Functional Voice Training combines world class training approaches taught by master singers and teachers, combined with scientific research led by the University of Darmstadt, Germany, with advanced learning strategies and personal musical coaching and mentoring.

Why “Functional”?

Being part of the Functional Music Training (including FITS (Fly In The Studio, music production training) and FPT (Functional Piano Training), FVT methods draw from teachings of some of the best international pedagogues worldwide.

The Functional Voice Training has its roots in the “Funktionales Stimmtraining" (Functional Voice Training) as taught in Lichtenberg, Germany. It is called “functional” because it emphasizes the correct functional singing and breathing technique by making the student aware of the optimal physical use of his / her body.

Functional Voice Training also combines leading edge learning strategies with a fun, effective and motivating setting to lead the student to maximum progress in an enjoyable way.

Who started the
Functional Voice
Training?

The Functional Voice Training started as a collaborative research effort into what defines world-class singing by international pedagogues and researchers from the Technical University in Darmstadt, Germany, working with the Institute for Functional Voice Training in Lichtenberg, Germany.

Company founder and producer / pianist Tim Lukas studied extensively with Functional Voice Trainers in Germany and the US, including Eugene Rabine, Gisela Rohmert, founders of the Functional Voice Program in Germany. Tim is the only certified Functional Voice Trainer in the Greater Boston area and teaches both contemporary and classical music styles.

Tim started studying as pianist and producer (Tonmeister and classical piano degree University of the Arts, Berlin, Germany, and production, writing and performance degree, Berklee College of Music) before becoming certified as a Functional Voice Trainer.

Tim studied in addition with leading Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais trainers and coaches for optimal breathing, posture, movement and use of the voice, benefitting both vocal performance in the recording studio and on stage, including theater and film acting.
